Dawn Darling, LICSW

Dawn Darling is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). Dawn joined Kearney Counseling
Associates in June of 2014. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University
of Nebraska Kearney (UNK) in May 2010 and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of
Nebraska Omaha Grace Abbott School of Social Work (UNO-GASSW) in May 2014. Dawn is currently a
member in good standing of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and of the World
Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH). Dawn is an active member of PFLAG Kearney
and facilitates Chameleons, a transgender support group. Dawn enjoys assisting clients in gaining relief
from the negative symptoms associated with trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and
minority stressors. Dawn is committed to facilitating hope and personal growth in her clients by utilizing
person-centered, strength-based, cognitive behavioral approaches with an understanding of the
influence of family and community systems on the individual. Dawn provides affirmative and accepting
services to all individuals in order to help them experience relief, inner-acceptance, and peace.
Dawn spent 15 years working with adolescents and adults in informal settings while also being a full-
time mom to her four children. This experience helped her gain a foundational knowledge and
understanding of individuals and families. Dawn moved to Kearney in 2008 to return to college. While
attending college, Dawn worked full-time with adolescents and their families in the child welfare system
in both out-of-home placement and in-home service settings. This provided her with the opportunity to
fine-tune her skills with working with a diverse population. Dawn completed her advanced practicum at
the Grand Island VA Medical Center. This was an incredible experience where she was able to work with
veterans and their families regarding end-of-life issues and mental illness in older adults. Since beginning
her private practice career, Dawn has begun working closely with the LGBTQIA+ community and
specializes in transgender and non-binary identities. Dawn is motivated to bring compassion and hope
to every one of her clients!
